By Daphne Clarance: Snoring happens when a person makes a hoarse sound while exhaling because the air flows past through relaxed tissues in the throat which causes it to vibrate. While there are several reasons besides fatigue that can cause snoring, this condition also depends on factors like weight, health and the shape of your mouth.
Snoring is often associated with a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to Mayo Clinic. Though every second person snores when they sleep, there are cases of chronic snoring that need immediate attention.
According to Ayurveda expert Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, one simple way to manage snoring is by using the method Nasya. She took to Instagram and shared a video about how one can manage it by doing a routine for 21 days to three months.
In the video, Dr Savaliya said, "Take A2 cow ghee. Heat it a little so its lukewarm and put two drops of it in your nostrils before you go to bed. Try this for 21 days to three months to see wonderful results."
In the caption, Dr Savaliya explained the meaning of Nasya and wrote, "Nasya is the best ayurvedic therapy for all supraclavicular (above shoulders) disorders. In ayurveda- It means the nose is the gateway to the brain. It helps in all disorders related to head, mouth, teeth, ears, nose, eyes and overall health."
Explaining how A2 cow ghee can help with snoring, she shared, "Putting 2 drops of cow's ghee in your nostrils either in the morning or night helps you have sound sleep, relieves headache (due to stress, migraine, etc), improves your immunity, reduces allergies, improves memory, improves mental health (gives you more clarity), helps with hairfall and grey hair, relieves tension, improves your concentration and helps with overall health as it nourishes your brain (which takes care of all nervine functions)."
As per the expert, if someone is stressed (difficult to relax mentally), has recurrent headaches, has excessive heat in the body, struggles to do things mindfully, has hair issues, dull vision, dull hearing, insomnia or disturbed sleep, then put two drops of cow ghee in both nostrils at bedtime (ghee should be in liquid form, lukewarm) with the help of cotton, dropper or your tiny finger.
However, if your snoring is associated with symptoms like breathing pauses during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, morning headaches, sore throat upon awakening, restless sleep, gasping or choking at night etc, then you should visit a doctor.
